GPS Fishing Numbers Destin Florida (2024)

A LEG REEF is a shallow water reef only a mile off the beach just east of the CB Buoy. It was deployed in July 1993 with resources left over
from construction of the Mid Bay Bridge. There are supposed to be a total of 106 - 5' high concrete pyramids dropped in 28 sites, roughly 200'
apart. However, hurricanes have taken their toll and moved or covered a lot of them. You can still find some 2-4' returns on your bottom machine
in the area and it is a good place to find bait or troll for king mackerel. Also known as the "Training Reef" and the "10 Fathom Reef".

ARMY TANKS were sunk on December 19, 1994 as part of the US Army logistic exercise Reefex94. ( Reefex 94 was the program name used
by the US Army to de-militarize its obsolete M-60 battle tanks by sinking them in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic ocean. ) A total of 14 US Army
surplus M-60 main battle tanks from the Anniston Army Depot were sunk on December 19, 1994 as part of the US Army logistic exercise Reefex
94. Six were sunk about 1 1/2 miles south south east of the Okaloosa Island pier in 70'. One was sunk 1 1/2 mile south of the CB Buoy just north
of the Eglin Barge in 68' of water. Two were sunk further east about a mile due south of the Miss Louise in 68'. The other five tanks were sunk
in deeper water, about 17 miles southeast of Destin in around 115'.

Usually hold red snapper, maybe a grouper or trigger fish.

CSX BOXCARS
In June of 1988, CSX railroad donated a total of 16 old boxcars to be used as artificial reefs off Destin. They were deployed in 4 different sites,
with 4 boxcars to each site. One site (CSX Box Cars 4) is located 5 miles west of the CB Buoy near the Barrel Barge. Another site (CSX Box
Cars 1) is located 20 sm south west in 103' of water. The other two sites are east of the CB Buoy in state waters, and are listed below. Most
have been covered with sand or rotted away.

Four boxcars were sunk on June 17, 1988 just west of the Destin Bridge rubble in 70' of water.

JUNES DUNES REEF 30:22.608 86:27.965 084°mag/2.9sm

Shallow water reef deployed in March of 1997 just a half mile off the beach from the old Junes Dunes restaurant. Approximately 55' depth. The
restaurant was torn down in 2003 and replaced with the Dolphin Run Condominium. The reef consisted of a 50' houseboat and 25 concrete "reef
balls". Due to its shallow depth, a lot of the structure has been mostly covered over or moved by hurricanes. You can still find a few bottom
returns in the area and it is a good place to catch bait or troll by for King Mackerel. Can be accessed from the June White Decker Beach access.

EGLIN BARGEThe Eglin Barge is a 100' steel barge sunk in December of 1977 in 68' of water only 2 miles from the Destin East pass. Popular site for divers
and receives a lot of fishing pressure. Good place to catch bait (ruby red lips) in the off season, flounder in November-January time frame, and
King Mackerel by trolling a cigar minnow/Stretch 25 from April to October.

FRANGISTA BARGEThe Frangista Barge, also known as the "Hopper Barge" and the "Walton Barge", is a 195’ long hopper barge located about 9 miles east of the
Destin East Pass. It was sunk on June 30, 1999 along with 100 tons of steel ballast. It is sitting upright on a sandy bottom in 80’ of water, running
east/west with the bow pointing west. The sides of the barge have completely collapsed and are lying almost flat on the bottom. The port side
