Dirt cake is one of our favorite desserts. Everyone loves Oreo cookies so I am always looking for an excuse to make dirt cake. So we decided to make a Halloween dirt cake and it turned out so cute.

I love to make traditional dirt cake year round. Did you make our Easter dirt cake? Now, it is time to make one for Halloween!

It is so easy to make and the tombstone cookies really complete the look. Get your supplies ready and let’s make this cake!

Ingredients

  • Oreos
  • Cream Cheese- softened
  • Butter- softened
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Cool Whip
  • Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix
  • Milk
  • Milano Cookies
  • Gummy Worms and Candy Pumpkins – optional but so fun!
  • Wilton Black Writing Icing

How to make Halloween Dirt Cake

First, crush the Oreos cookies in a food processor or blender. Once they are all crushed, put 2/3 of them in the bottom of a 9X13 pan.

Just set this aside for later.

Second, mix together the cream and butter and beat until it is smooth. I like to use a hand mixer or stand mixer until this is smooth.

Next, mix in the powdered sugar and cool whip. Make sure this is all combined really good.

Now you need a separate bowl. Whisk together the milk and chocolate pudding mixes.

Next, fold this mixture into the cream cheese mixture.

Once combined, pour this over the Oreos in the 9X13 pan.

Finally, top with the remaining Oreos that you crushed.

Go ahead and cover the dish. Put in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Right before serving, decorate the cake. We like to write RIP on the top of the Milano cookies with the black icing.

Put the cookies all over the cake to resemble tombstones. Next, decorate with the gummy worms and candy pumpkins.

Tips and tricks for Graveyard dirt cake:

  • I usually make this cake with traditional Oreos and chocolate pudding but you can make this cake with your favorite type of Oreos and pudding to change up the flavor of the cake based on your preference.
  • This will keep in the fridge for up to 1 week. You can easily make this ahead of time to cut down on things you need to do the day of the party. Just remember to wait to decorate it until you are ready to serve.
  • Don’t have afood processor? Place the cookies inside a ziplock bag and seal tightly. Use a rolling pin or back of wooden spoon to crush them.
  • This recipe is perfect in a9×13 baking dish. Theones with the lidare really handy if you are taking this dessert somewhere.
  • I often use thedisposable pansfor the dirt cake if I’m taking it to a cook out or party. I like not having to worry about the pan.

Easy Graveyard Dirt Cake is so easy!

Get creative and feel free to decorate this with what you have on hand. Googly eyes are fun too. We have so much fun creating these.

Ingredients

  • 1 packaged Oreos 15.5 oz
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup Butter softened
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 16 oz Cool Whip
  • 2 boxes of Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix 3.3 oz each
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 1 package Milano Cookies
  • Gummy Worms and Candy Pumpkins optional
  • Wilton Black Writing Icing

Instructions

  • Crush the Oreos in a food processor or blend and place 2/3 of them in the bottom of a 9X13 pan. Set aside.

  • Cream together the cream and butter with a hand held mixer or stand up mixer until smooth. Then mix in the powdered sugar and cool whip.

  • Then in a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and chocolate pudding mixes. Then fold this mixture into the cream cheese mixture.

  • Pour this mixture over the Oreos in the 9X13 pan.

  • Then top with the remaining crushed up Oreos.

  • Cover and refrigerate the cake for a minimum of 2 hours before serving.

  • Decorate the cake right before serving. Write RIP on the top of the Milano cookies with the black icing. Place them in the cake to resemble tombstones and then decorate with the gummy worms and candy pumpkins.
